Krishna ..Dance Ballet

Sobhana is one south indian film actress I admire because she posseses a combination of  an aesthetic sense and etheral beauty which is rare .
The myraid emotions that lights up her face can come  only  because of her inherent  natural talent ,professional training and hard work over many years in classical dancing .
Holder of two national awards Shobana is well known for her creative choreography works as much as for  her histrionic capabilities in the big screen .
I had seen her fusion of dance with  her group of dancers in combination with a tabla maestro some years back .
In fact she was nice enough to do this programme as a fundraiser for our Shilpa Society society at Ernakulam fine arts hall .It  was a resounding sucess ,one thing that struck me then was her dedication to her passion
on that day as the evening grew the  crowd was waiting to get into thier seats
Shobana had told us not to allow anybody into the hall  till 6.30pm as she needed a final dress rehersal and I nervously looked into the hall ,she was up there in the stage admonishing and encouraging her dancers to thier best to the last minute ,at 6.30 pm sharp she allowed us to get the audience in and left to the green room ,in ten minutes the show started and she was there fully made up and looking lovely .
So when I got an oppurtunity to watch her latest ballet Krishna in Al Ain club cinema I was delighted ,thanks to my friend I could even get a front row VIP seat.

Krishna the supreme cowherd the lover of all good things but at the same time the greatest philosopher who existed  whose Bhagvad Gita is primordial and infinite in its sermon  of life .
To make a dance musical on such a pesonality with such varied dimensions is no easy feat .
Shobana had achieved this to perfection ,be it in her personification of the supreme diety ,her body language ,benign smile which conveyed   so much meaning ,her  subtle graceful connulations  of her slender hips ,every delicate twist of her lithe body ,every stance emoted every fleeting flush of her face  conveyed infinite meanings ,the flute lover the cowherd the lord of the Yadavas ,the advisor par excellence ,the schemer in the Mahbaharatha and the yogi who gets shot by the final arrow which ends the earthly life was depicted with so much sensitivity .,one could feel the presence of Krishna himself .
The dance team were no less in thier perfections be it the beautiful Radha besotted in her love for her Krishna  ,Arjuna whose baritone voice( voice given by tamil star Surya )  booms in righteousness as he faces the destruction ahead in he Great war while  he teeters on the precipe of indecison till his charioteer Krishna eulogises on Dharma in the immortal Bhagvad gita and gives him a glimpse of his supreme self as theMahavishnu himself .
the scene was enthralling and enchanting .
The lack of complicated props and scenes were  finely compensated by the  intircacies of the choreography ,the excuisite selection of the right musical tracks ranging from a cinematic Boombara bar  to the lilting strains of a Rahmans Lagaan  or the rumbustouness of Kathakali drums .
The small child who comes as the infant Krishna felling demoness boothana with an innocent mischievous smile makes one wonder where she got such an excellent talent in a child of that age .
It was a musical treat that whetted my sensibilites
I congragulate Shobana for her dedication in carrying the right notes of a culture so deep and ancient to the far corners of the world by this wonderful creation of hers

dont miss this

Ayallum Njannum Thammil

This recent Malyalam movie by Lal jose  Ayallum njanum thamil which means he and me explores the relationship between a senior and a junior doctor ,
Amritham Gamaya where the brilliant actor called Mohanlal acted to a script written  by the very legendary writer  M.T Vasudevan nair also fell into this genre ( Karamanna was the senior in that movie )

Being a part of the medical profession I am well aware of a relationship that can develop between two doctors one senior and the other junior it goes beyond thier professional skills and barriers and skirts on an emotional plane .
It takes time for such a platonic friendship or mentorship to evolve but it does happen as it has to me on two occasions
Me with Dr V.P Gangadharan about whom Iam yet to write a post
and
Dr Ahmed Ali who was my teacher in Kilpauk Medical college see post below ....

The movie has delved into the nuances of a doctors life with a lot of sincerity and it could do so well because one of its script writers was a doctor himself ,giving it an elelement of authenticity .
several times the decisons made by a medical professional could be used against him if things go wrong though the intentions would have been genuine and noble
the present reflex reactions of crowds on unhappy results in medical  treatement  by  physicially maiming doctors ( an urologist recently was stabbed to death in Abudhabi ) and venting thier anger on hospitals or clinics have spread virally specially in Kerala ,this is well depicted in the film .
A doctor can act for the best with his professional knowledge experience  and his skills guided by his conscience and the hippocratic oath which he takes on graduation but the results could be unexpected at times , deep trust between a pateint and a doctor is needed to accept such situations .
Matirealism  commercialistion of  medical courses  and protective medicine ( in fear of litigation and insurance ) has made a dent into the medical profession to a certain extent and created black sheeps just like in any other profession .
on the other side mistrust and hyperbole by vested intrests amongst patients and thier relatives who indulge in violence and vandalism have made the medical professionals feel like hunted specimens
in spite of such risks there are still doctors who take risks for good ends
Pratap Pothen in the film is  one such senior doctor and  a fine example to  a harassed junior doctor enacted by Prithviraj who matures from a chocolate romantic college hero into a grilled professional by the end of the film
The cool wind that graces his bearded countenance is like a blessing from his departed mentor who taught him by his deeds what all being a doctor really was .

a movie taken well
 please  see it

Mobocracy

When there is monarchy we have only one king and if he is good the country is happy like in the UAE
but in a democracy there are so many kings and if most of them are bad the country is unhappy like to a certain extent  in India .
over the years Indian politicians have lost thier ethics
Muscle money caste religion nexus dictates winners in elections so democracy turns a  a farce
of course people can still voice thier opinions freely but whistle blowers attacks are  on the rise and this too is becoming dangerous .
For the level headead law abiding citizen there is no forum to turn for justice , as instituions which tradionally uphold the constitution and fundamental rights flounder under pressure or pleasure ,
the politician over the year has become more bold even in the face of technologically smart media with its exposures he preens in his evil ways and gets away with it .
One thinks lack of education could be the cause as in most cited examples of the BIMARI states but Gods own country with its often acclaimed status as a fully literate one behaves the most illiterate .
The politicians  smug with thier assured vote banks  on caste communal connotations are arrogant and stoop to anything to achieve thier ends .
One fine example is the recent live ranting of a sub inspector of police by a congress party worthy his choice dialogues were spewed out in the full glare of the TV cameras as he snubbed the poor inspector who was doing his job by accusing him of putting on a  Suresh Gopi act while at the same time himself aptly  fitting the role of the screen villain politician very well .
the only difference in reality  is it is  the villain who wins here instead of the hero
He victoriuosly has his say and needs fulfilled with some popularity thrown in by his circus acts admired by  his gloating puppets
in this  land of  great men  like shri Abdul Kalam Azad to whom modesty and humility come as a virtue we also have such leaders !
All thier non chalance would come to an end if met with a stern and fair leader who would stand no nonsense as bullies never thrive where there is fear but this state is only a daydream for every patriot and could never come true alas .
