Ukraine crisis

My two cents on Ukraine crisis ...

By Dr Harimohan

Russia to me had always been a passion ,as a country,by  its people ,its strange different language, its films, its magazine Sputnik ,but it defintely was  not the Russia of today but the USSR of the seventies .

From the time the Russian revolution happened and the platonic theory of Communism by Marx and Engels with its utopian humanitarian values was adopted to a country it was then thought to become a sunrise in the development of the human speices political life .

But it just turned into another story of power mongering and giving birth to party dictatorship .

It would take another hundred years to realise this by the world .

Stalin was ruling the USSR during second WW and had the cunning to lie in bed with the resident evil of the century Hitler to protect himself , but to lie with a black mumba getting bit was inevitable as he realised it when the blitzering German army goose stepped into his Kremlins backyard and the great dictator would have shivered in fear then.

All his Siberian sins would have ganged up to give Stalin the fright of his life  .

But Russia has one formidable soldier protecting it always !!

The power of its winter .

Napolean Bonaparte had to retrace his proud steps  as the white terror of a Russian  winter tore through the French army ,the Germans too would retreat slunk in the mire in abject cold hunger and despair and Hitler his fortunes turned by making  the biggest mistake of his war to turn  to the Eastern front .

He woke up a sleeping dog which would bite him .

The winter drove the Germans back chased by the Soviets and the war would end in a race to reach Berlin between the commies and capitalists to get a big pie of Europe as a victors prize .

The Soviets would reach and take Berlin finding a dead and burnt Hitler shot by his own on his orders and with Eva his beloved dead after being the death oracle of his times .

Then would begin the decades of cold war between the Soviet blocs of East Germany  ,

Chezhoslovakia ,Poland,

Romania,

Albania,Hungary,Bulgaria and the great mother of communism USSR .

Those days when I was in 10th to 11 th standard I was a card holding ISCUS member spending a lot of time in the USSR consultate poring over their books watching thier films, winning essay competitons, getting tiny Lenin badges ,which my school headmaster Brother Stephen would frown upon and tell me

it was evil and not to fall in its trap but those were the heady days of Indo Soviet Bhai bhai .

We had to accept USSR was to India an all weather friend and the Russian bear would menacingly growl at anyone daring to threaten its little brother India and a grateful India adopted Socialism got stuck to its times too .

No one those days of eighties ever imagined this great order of communism would fall like a pack pf cards in a gust of wind .

But it happened

All it needed was Gorbachevs Glasnost and Persetroika to the begginging of its crumble .

Was Gorbachev the ultimate plant by the west ?

or was it destiny heralding the death of an order which would never be a sucess in practice .

It would exist in another two decades in a tiny corner of south India in the world with China the other communist bastion turning to a different version using its shell .

But the mighty USSR was gone forever as Chechenyas Ukraines and Uzbekistans had thier way not to mention the symbolic broken wall in Bunderstand Berlin NATO was laughing all its way to delight as its best dreams became true .

The cold war died ,KGB became an old war club and so we thought but for an ex KGB Lieutunant colonel who would be probably a force reckoner .

Putin

NATO was becoming too big in its boots and had the temerity to plant its missiles in Russias backyard ,a repeat of the Cuban crisis where Kennedy became the hero as an impending third WW was avoided then ..

Today a reverse Cuban crisis had forced a desperate Russia to hit back at Ukraine which NATO was using as a sideboard .

Was Russia read Putin fair ?

No.man creating a war where innocents suffer can be justified and that too to a world staggering to recover from the impact of a greatest pandemic of the modern times .

 No way .

But how will history judge Putin ?

It all depends on how soon this nightmare ends .

Will a changed leadership amd a more timid Ukraine satisfy Russia to withdraw or will it draw blood and add Ukraine as its first victory booty to a resurgent USSR ?

The  US of A which has gotten scot free at several similar invasions unjustifed by logic or reason and has no right to cry wolf when Russians do the same .

Will the USA read NATO pitch a battle with Russia ?

surely it would be a genesis of the  third world war .

A few days would tell us that .

Till then we hope the losses are few and gains more

An unending despair of our speices .
