Pazhamudhir Cholai

1

 Pazhamudhir cholai

20 km from Madurai is Pazhamudhir cholai which is the sixth abode of
Lord Muruga .
Since we had visited the rest five which are
Thirparankundram ,Swami Malai ,Tirutani ,Palani Tiruchendur
(2 days back ) and Pazamudhircholai .
So we checked into a hotel aptmnt in outskirts of Madurai after a 4 hr drive from Rameshwaram by afternoon .

We went by 4 pm to pazamudircholai .
The temple is in the green Alagar hills or Rishabadiri or idabhagiri hills .
There is a huge Vishnu temple on foothill and we went there first one pf 108 Divya deshams described by Alwars .
A road leads up to the Muruga temple quite small in size .
Lord Muruga is with Valli and Deivayani his consorts and his Vel also has a shrine .
The place is well wooded and green .
Legend says Ilango Adigal wrote Silapadikaaram from here .
The most famous devotee of lord Muruga Avayyar is supposed to have come here once and was tired thirsty and hungry so was resting under a tree when an young lad mostly a cowherd asked her if she wanted some fruits .
She answered yes
He asked fo you want it hot or cold '?'
She wondered how a fruit can be hot !
So she said cold
He shook the tree and several juicy fruits fell on ground .
The venerable old lady took one and blew the sand off it to eat it .
The boy laughingly said so its hot fruit you got as you are blowing it .
Avai was surprised by this stroke of intelligence by an ordinary boy and asked him who he was.
Lord Muruga revealed his true self and blessed her .

This happened in this place .
About 500 mts above this temple is Noopura ganga a perennial water source but now inside the temple to Rakkayi amman .
This temple needs a climb of around 50 steps .
We returned downhill and to Madurai city and our place of stay
