Sangameswarar temple is in Bhavani near Erode in Tamilnadu .( 15 km )
Its also called Thirunani ,Thirukooduthurai ,is a Shiva temple .
at confluence of three rivers ,Kaveri,Bhavani ,Amutha hence known as Dakshina Triveni sangam or Kooduthurai .
The riverfront is known for devotees doing last rites for relatives and then praying in temple .
According to legend Kubera gifted an aircraft to visit Siva temples because of his devotion to Lord Siva is flying above Kaveri and looks down to see a cow ,deer,tiger,elephant,snake and rat together drinking water under Illandhai tree without fighting or harming each other .
A divine voice tells him of the holy site that it is visited by Vedas ,inhabited by Gandharvas ,and advises him to worship the Lingam under the Illandhai tree .
Every inch of the ground below is supposed to have one Siva linga
The tree is perpetually fruit bearing
A cow symbolises the unity of Vaisnavism and Saivism .
There was a cave connectivity from this temple to Chidambaram temple during Chola ,Pandya chera times .
In 1804 British collector William Karo visited here on inspection stayed in traveller's Bungalow.
At night the collector was woken up by a little girl who led him outside the house and disappeared.
The moment he was out the Bungalow collapsed and he was surprised at how he escaped .
On trying to find out the girl he was told it was Godess Bhavani Vedanayaki of Sangameswarar temple .
As he could not enter temple he drilled three holes in wall of deity so he could see through them .
He confirmed the little girl who saved him was the Godess indeed .
He offered a gold plate inscribed to the Godess and the plate and three holes are still there .
The temple has Siva as main deity with Bhavani Vedanayagi his consort
Vishnu and his consort Soundaravalli Thaayar
