Vaikkarakaavu Temple

Vaikkarakaavu temple islocated 12 km from perumbavoor town .
Its surrounded by stately well laid out trees on abed of velvet lawn like grass .
Cattle graze on them giving an idylic visual .
The temple itself is painted bright red and golden yellow .
The Devi here is said to be one of the three divine manifestations of Durga who graced this region other two being irinjole kaavu and kalil Bhagavathy .
As the Bhagawathy chose this place on the side of a paddy field shes called vayalku arugathu or close to field later it became vaikarkaavu .
There is also another explanation
Vayakku ira or food for mouth ie she assures abundant food for her devotees .
The temple is under karimattath family and trust ..
The family has roots in a village called Manathana near Kotiyoor temple migrated here due to invasion in thier village .
Hence chief priest of Manathana Vishnu temple and Vaikkara temple are the same .
All lotus needed for temple comes from its pond
There are strict rules of photography ban even in outer border of this temple which i feel is unfair as people should know more about temples
Some pics and info thanks to the spiritual odyssey the lovely coffee table book on temples presented to us by
Dr Padmakumar .
