Kulathupuzha temple









 

Kulathupuzha Saastha temple was our first stop on 19 feb 2021 .

We started from Kotarakara at 7 am .






Kulathupuzha is in reserve forest range kollam .

Its deity Sastha or Ayappa is in form of Balasaastha or a baby lying on chest with head lifted .

It was supposed to have been consecrated by Parasurama from eight  pieces of stone .

One of 108 Sastha shrines in kerala and one of pancha saastha shrines.

The temple was founded by a brahmin from Kotarakara.

Though initially built by Pandalam Raja its supposed to have existed for years before .

The tantric rights belong to Kokolathu mutt .

The fish in pond are undisturbed and feeding them is an offering called Meenuttu also seen in Thriprayar temple in Thrissur district .

Fishes in pond are called Thirumakkal of Ayappa 

Among sub deities is Ayappas friend karuppuswamy worshipped in Tamilnadu as a powerful deity .

In Achankoil also there is a seperate temple for Karuppuswamy .
