Medhu vada


 We all know this is the medhu vadai 


At least no South Indian can be called one if he doesnt know this gospel truth .


I used to make a reasonably tasty crispy version of this by even preparing the dough .

The most important part of the vada is its  engine 

 its hole or otta .

No Vada is a Vada without a hole .


To put a hole or not in a Vada was Hamlets original dialogue ,Somewhere Shakespeare slipped into existensialism from reality ..


Serious debates are held in foodie groups on the art of making fine holes in soft vadas .

Its an art indeed .


Many were the suggestions .

One said to hold the dough in palm as a round ball and shoot it in the center .

Another advised using an ullakka to punch a hole .

Still another suggested tickling a vada in its belly or was it fingering it .

A holeless vada was born of frustration of a chef who could never master the art 

He just gave it a name BONDA 

Hole vendaam nee PODA he said .


Actually does a hole make anything other than a cosmetic difference ?


Life too is so you can live well without that wholeness you see .

Its all how hole u feel .


There is a holiness south of Thanjavur who made his market on this hole business .


Oh you Vadais

I love you hole or no hole .
