The main  idol is made up of jaggery  hence no Abhishekam or ritualistic ablutions using water .

Only Archana using specific flowers which after puja are brushed off using peacock feather very gently 

The idol is in sleeping posture but not in sleep .

Lord is in yoga nidra or conscious cosmic slumber on Ananthan the serpent 

Yoga nidhra is not sleep 

No one needs suprabhatham to wake him up .

His eyes half closed with total awareness he is I'm repose 

That's Yoga nidhra .

Ananthan is infinity... one with no beggining or end 

Adhiyum illaa Andhiyum illaaa

Eternal infinity 

Anandan is reposed  in paal Kadal or sea of milk 

Anandhan has three folds which are three gunas.... Satwa,Rajitha ,and Tamo

Only God can be on all three 

The serpent Anandha has five heads which protect the Lord ,they are the five sense organs  for Seeing ,hearing,tasting,touching,speaking and smelling 

Ears ,Eyes,Tongue,Skin and Nose .

Padmanabhan is one who has a lotus from his navel 

Padma is lotus 

 nabhi is navel 

There are 24 personifications of Mahavishnu  one amongst them is Padmanabhan not to be confused with Dasa avatharams .

In fact Mahavishnu was listening to Devas who appealed to him about the torture by evil forces Asuras ,he assured them he would soon be born as Sree Rama in the world but before that he would spend some time in Yoga nidhra 

Sree Padmanabhan is that entity .

The moola vigraham is the lying down idol .

There is a silver idol in sitting pose used for Siveli and processions 

There is a gold idol in standing pose used for Abisekhams 

So three idols in sleeping  sitting and standing postures is rare and great .
